Hunting Exploits

Most of you probably know this but Clayton LOVES bowhunting. He's a real bowhunter too and hunts with a long bow. He was able to make it out to the area he was hunting 3 weekends. The first two he didn't see ANYTHING. In my opinon that's worse that seeing something and either not getting a shot or missing.

IF you don't know about bow hunting it's a LOT more difficult than shooting something with a rifle. For one, you have to be alot closer and more sneaky.

This weekend Clayton was hunting and he heard some noise (while elk can be noisy when walking through a forest, they aren't THAT noisy) It turned out that there were free range cows running around out there. What those farmers are thinking, I don't know, rifle season starts next week and I wouldn't want MY cows running around when there are bullets flying!

Anyway Clayton was able to call in a couple of elk but those darn cows! (when he was first telling me the story I kept thinking...yeah I know there were bulls there but come on! Shoot a cow! Girl Elk are called cows...for some reason I wasn't thinking clearly and even though he had just told me about the Moo cows I was still thinking girly elk cows. He didn't see any bulls that time so really who knows what I was thinking.) Those (MOO) cows wouldn't move from in front of the (Girly ELK) cows. Lucky Elk. Sad for us, though, I wanted some elk meat in my freezer!

Oh well, there's always next year. Maybe Clayton will have better luck with a deer if he gets to go hunting. (I'm not sure when the season is but I have a sneaking suspision it's around when our baby is due.)

So here's to better luck next year.

Bummer. Dad just went bow hunting on Saturday and got a 3 point buck. But it's at Reed's house.
